CBS’ post-Super Bowl NFL mock draft puts Cooper DeJean as a star prospect

Cooper DeJean has been in the spotlight throughout his career as the Iowa Hawkeyes’ star defenseman. If he goes into the NFL in this year’s NFL Draft, he will be in a brighter light than ever before.

Dallas, Texas is a place where the lights shine brighter than anywhere else. The Dallas Cowboys are one of the NFL’s most watched and talked about franchises across all sports.

CBS Sports’ post-Super Bowl 2024 NFL mock draft puts Cooper DeJean right there. They saw the Hawkeyes defensive back reach the highlights of his young career when the Dallas Cowboys selected him in the first round at No. 24 overall.

The powerful DeJean can play almost anywhere (and he’s an asset in the return game too) and his versatility and rare athleticism make him such an enticing prospect. – Ryan Wilson, CBS Sports

Cooper DeJean would fit perfectly into the Cowboys’ defensive system. Their cornerback positions are filled by Trevon Diggs and Daron Bland, two of the league’s best ballhawks, who had nine interceptions in 2023, five of which were returned for touchdowns. The two have already combined for 32 interceptions in their young careers.

That type of stability in the secondary would allow Dallas to use DeJean all over the field. He could be a slot corner, slide back to safety and use his instincts, or rotate on the outside while learning under two of the league’s best.

If this mock draft becomes a reality, Cooper DeJean will go from being one of Iowa’s trailblazers to some of the trailblazers in all of professional sports.
