Cops arrest man for drug possession – Delaware State Police

The Delaware State Police arrested the 43-year-old Aaron Matthews of Georgetown, Delaware on drug charges following a traffic stop in Seaford yesterday afternoon.

On August 26, 2023, at approximately 1:10 p.m., a patrol officer saw a gray Mercedes Benz SL 55 traveling westbound on Concord Road near River Vista Drive. The Mercedes had an invalid number plate, but when the police tried to stop the car, it continued to move at a slow speed. The Mercedes continued northbound on the Sussex Highway while the driver was seen moving about in the car. Eventually the Mercedes stopped on Middleford Road, east of the Sussex Highway, where driver Aaron Matthews was taken into custody without incident. Police also saw that a 16-year-old boy was in the car, unharmed, and later turned over to a family member.

Police officers searched the car and found a small amount of crack on the driver’s running board. Officers then searched the back of the police car in which Matthews was being held and found more crack cocaine that Matthews had hidden on the seat. In total, the police seized about 28.4 grams of crack cocaine.

Matthews was taken to Squad 5 and charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of a controlled substance in a Level 3 amount (criminal offense)
  • Possession with intent to supply a controlled substance (criminal offense)
  • Manipulation of Evidence (Crime)
  • endangerment of the child’s welfare
  • resisting arrest
  • possession of drug paraphernalia
  • traffic offences

Matthews was charged by the Magistrate’s Court 3 and was sent to Sussex Correctional Institution on bail of $23,209.
