‘Days of Our Lives’ Harley Quinn actress was 67 – The Hollywood Reporter

Arleen Sorkin, who portrayed Calliope Jones on the NBC soap opera days of our lives and served as the original voice of DC Comics character Harley Quinn, who had died. She was 67.

Sorkin died Thursday, a source said The Hollywood Reporter. Health problems have kept her from acting in recent years.

DC CEO James Gunn wrote on Instagram on Saturday: “Rest in Peace Arleen Sorkin, the incredibly talented original voice of Harley Quinn who helped create the character that so many of us love.” Love to her family and friends.”

Mark Hamill, who often recorded his lines as a joker alongside Sorkin, also remembered her in a tribute, writing: “Devastated to learn that we have lost the brilliant Arleen Sorkin. Not just a wonderful talent, but a truly wonderful person. Not only am I grateful to have worked with her, but also to have been her friend. I offer my deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.”

Harley Quinn was scheduled to appear in an episode on her debut Batman: The Animated Series in the 1992 episode “Joker’s Favor” in which she was introduced as Hamill’s Joker’s henchman.

Paul Dini, co-creator of Harley Quinn and Batman Author, was a college friend of Sorkin’s and says he was inspired to cast her after one day he was homesick and she starred in an episode of ” days of our livesin which she played a harlequin in a dream sequence.

“I thought of a character that resembled her personality at the time, which was the snappy, funny blonde,” said Dini THR in 2016.

The character proved a success, and Sorkin returned for eight more episodes, slipping into video games, animated films, and animated series again over the years, including Gotham girl, justice league, The Batman Superman Movie: World’s Best and more.

“I sang in the car on the way to work – ‘Adelaide’s Lament’ by boys and dolls. And when I got there, I was ready,” Sorkin said THR in 2016. “Adelaide out boys and dolls is someone I’ve always wanted to play. So it was very easy for me to find Harley’s voice. But I made them even more extreme.”

Harley Quinn has become internationally known and Margot Robbie impersonated her on the big screen.

Tara Strong, who later embodied the voice of Harley Quinn in other versions, named Sorkin “The inspiration and the heart and soul of this iconic character.”

Sorkin was born in Washington on October 14, 1955 and worked in a comedy company and as a cabaret artist in the 1970s and 1980s. He then played Jones days of our lives from 1984-90, with return engagements in 1992, 2001, 2006 and 2010.

Her other acting appearances include: duet, open house, Keep dreaming, Ted & Venus, I don’t buy kisses anymore And Frasier. From 1990 to 1992 she was a co-host America’s Funniest People alongside Dave Coulier.

Sorkin also served as a writer and producer for the television shows How to marry a billionaire And cheeredCo-wrote the 1997 film Picture book and wrote two episodes for Tiny toon adventures.

Survivors include her husband, producer and writer Christopher Lloyd, and their two children.
