While co-op third-person shooter Helldivers 2 has been well-received by gamers and has become Sony’s biggest PC game launch ever, it continues to struggle with login issues and untracked rewards, which performance has even forced its developer to a patch to roll back problems.
Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios released patch 01.000.005 for the game on Steam yesterday, January 12th. The update was intended to fix major issues affecting players’ ability to log in, but caused performance issues, which in turn caused Arrowhead to have trouble rolling back the patch.
“We have rolled back the patch due to some users experiencing significant performance degradation,” Arrowhead said in a note on Helldivers Discord. “The mission reward fix will not be affected.”

In the patch notes for update 01.000.005, Arrowhead promised to compensate players for lost rewards through an increased reward event. Much of the progression in Helldivers 2 comes through mission rewards, making this a particularly bad problem for players trying to make their avatars stronger.
In the meantime, Arrowhead released a patch for the PS5 version today, February 13th, addressing server capacity, login capacity progress, and mission rewards. It’s the same as the PC patch, but Arrowhead said it doesn’t expect any performance issues on the PS5. “We are currently investigating this issue with yesterday’s PC build,” the developer said.
Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt had previously done so apologized to the players and explained how the servers struggled to cope with the influx of players after launching last week. In the meantime, Helldivers 2 players have already adopted an “unspoken” co-op etiquette.
