NVIDIA DLSS 3.5 upscaling has proven to be significantly superior to DLSS 3.1 in Cyberpunk 2077

NVIDIA’s DLSS 3.5 is coming relatively soon, with Cyberpunk 2077 being the first AAA title to use it, and we now have a comparison video showing the big improvement the technology brings with its superior upscaling abilities.

Yesterday NVIDIA released its DLSS 3.5 SDK, which also includes DLL files that can be easily swapped out in any game that supports DLSS. We’ve mentioned the whole process of including DLSS in a DLSS game here, so be sure to check it out if you’re planning on doing it yourself. As expected, comparisons of the new DLSS 3.5 upscaling technology with the current DLSS 3.1 version are already being made and shown.

Benchmarking YouTuber MxBenchmarkPC has released a video showing a comparison with DLSS 3.5 and DLSS 3.1 enabled in Cyberpunk 2077. The video also shows DLSS 3.5 FG (Frame Generation) running in the latest upscaling version even without FG enabled. The new supersampling model seems to have received another AI-assisted kick, as can be seen in one of the sections of the video where the cage fence has less artifacts compared to DLSS 3.5 compared to DLSS 3.1.1.

This is just one aspect of the game where DLSS 3.5 shines over DLSS 3.1, and we can expect even more improvements once the final version is released early next month. It’s great to see that the latest DLSS update not only offers ray reconstruction, which is undoubtedly the biggest feature of the new version. The new Ray Reconstruction technology not only offers improved GI and RT capabilities for games that support them, but also improves performance.

Currently the technology needs to be activated in the engine in order for it to run. So swapping out the DLSS files doesn’t make it work at all. However, we’ll update you on our impressions of the technology as soon as it becomes available.
