Plan B Entertainment appoints Nina Wolarsky as TV President – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: Veteran executive and producer Nina Wolarsky, who helped put Netflix on the original series map, has joined Plan B Entertainment as the company’s first television president.

The high-profile hire signals major TV expansion after Mediawan acquired a majority stake in Brad Pitt’s Plan B last December.

Known for his impressive film portfolio, which includes three Best Picture nominees and one winner, 12 years slavePlan B had ventured into television with projects like the Emmy-winning HBO film The normal heart and the Emmy-nominated HBO film nightingale and Prime Video series The subway.

The company signaled its growing ambitions in TV two years ago with the hiring of Scott Free’s Carina Sposato and Netflix’s Ernest McNealey as Plan B’s first dedicated senior TV executives. The duo will now be part of Wolarsky’s team.

Wolarsky was one of the first senior original programming executives hired by Netflix in 2012. During her eight-year tenure until her retirement in late 2020, she was instrumental in building the streamer’s original series team and programming. As an Outstanding Drama Emmy winner, she oversaw such successful and brand-defining Netflix shows The crown, orange is the new blackAva Duvernay’s award-winning limited series when they see usand the first season of Shondaland’s world phenomenon Bridgerton. In her role as Vice President, Wolarsky led a team responsible for a variety of programming, including ongoing and limited series, and oversaw a number of overall deals with Netflix, including those with BridgertonShonda Rhimes, The crown’s Peter Morgan, and OITNBThis is Jenji Kohan.

Before joining Netflix, Wolarsky was SVP of George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smoke House Pictures from 2006 to 2012, where she developed and served as executive producer for the 2012 Academy Award-winning best picture argon and nominated for an Oscar in 2011 The ideas of March.

Wolarsky began her career at New York-based independent film production company Hart Sharp Entertainment (Boys don’t cry, you can count on me), where she oversaw development for, among others, the 2008 Golden Globe-winning film Revolutionary Street.

Paris-based Mediawan Pictures CEO Elisabeth d’Arvieu indicated that hiring Wolarsky is part of the company’s TV plans in the United States

Plan B’s upcoming television projects include a second season of outer area and an order of Wytches for Prime Video and Amazon Studios a new season of lego master for Fox a second season of feud in collaboration with Ryan Murphy for FX and three body problemby David Benioff and DB Weiss and Alex Woo, for Netflix.

Plan B’s upcoming film projects include RaMell Ross The Nickel Boys and Nia DaCosta Hedda Gabler for MGM’s Orion Pictures, Bong Joon-Hos Mickey 17 and Tim Burton’s sequel Beetlejuice for Warner Brothers, David Michods wizard for A24, Reinaldo Marcus Green Bob Marley: One Love for Paramount, as well as an untitled thriller by writer/director Jon Watts, starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt, and Joseph Kosinski’s Formula 1 racing film starring Pitt for Apple Studios.

Additionally, Plan B has entered into a worldwide multi-project development deal with Audible to create a series of Audible Originals. The first project under the partnership, Bradford Young’s A Summer Love Thing, is in active development.
